Backwater Skiing


In winter the smallest bit of color stands out. Although the lichen, or fungus, or whatever the stuff growing on this tree is more than a bit. I thought it was paint until I stuck my nose to it and saw the hue came from something growing. The tree stands in swampy lowlands that in highwater are part of the river. I've spent some of the last week cruising backwaters. Tortuous channels too shallow and murky for even a high-riding canoe are good times on a pair of wax-bottomed planks. Full Post»
